Dr. Luciana Borio is a Venture Partner at ARCH Venture Partners, where she helps identify, evaluate, and develop investment opportunities related to medical product manufacturing, clinical development, novel therapeutics, and areas with significant unmet medical needs. Dr. Borio is a physician and nationally recognized expert in biodefense, emerging infectious diseases, medical product development, and the management of complex public health emergencies.
Prior to ARCH, she was a senior vice president at In-Q-Tel, an independent nonprofit strategic investment firm that supports the U.S. intelligence community. Dr. Borio has also held several senior roles in the federal government. She previously served as Director for Medical and Biodefense Preparedness at the National Security Council, and as Acting Chief Scientist and Assistant Commissioner for Counterterrorism Policy at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Dr. Borio was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2021. She is a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations and an adjunct assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Borio received her M.D. from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She completed her residency in internal medicine at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and a combined fellowship in infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins and critical care medicine at the National Institutes of Health.
